that elephant has history

A life that has been wasted leaves a body intact and pristine– but a life that has been properly used leaves scars.

“Cathedral Rocks”
discovered a trove of photographs from another time tonight. this one taken by either my grandmother or grandfather while on a roadtrip together in 1946. el capitan is the great monolith rising up on the left side of the frame.
humbling to look through these treasures. respect that my own photographs will one day end up in the equivalent of a shoebox—perhaps to be found again in another time.

You have to go farther outside yourself in order to go deeper within yourself.

“The Architect”
Tommaso’s grandfather was an architect in Italy. His lifelong career built momentum up to a single project: the ski lodge. It took him many years to design and secure a pool of investors. They broke ground in the spring and construction commenced. When the project was complete, the lodge stood as worthy monument to represent a career. But they faced one, glaring shortfall—the resort was built along the shore of the ocean. No one seriously considered the poor snow conditions. The ski lodge was doomed. His grandfather lost his life savings (and needless to say, dignity) when the project folded. He later died of a heart attack while yelling at someone over the phone.
“To avoid disappointment in art, one mustn’t treat it as a career. Despite whatever great artistic sense and talent a man might possess, he ought to seek money and power elsewhere to avoid forsaking his art when he fails to receive proper compensation for his gifts and efforts.” - Orhan Pamuk, My Name Is Red

What in the world??

Life is a bunch of one-way roads.
There are many forks and curves to navigate, but forward is the only direction in which we must move.
Trying to stop or turn around will only lead to more damage.

WAKE UP

To every person that is forced to live a life subjected to debt slavery.

WAKE UP

To every person swimming in college loans with no employment in sight.

WAKE UP

To every person working minimum wage jobs that insult their intelligence.

WAKE UP

To every person with massive bills from the hospital.

WAKE UP

To every person that thinks that ending their life would be easier.

WAKE UP

We still have power. We still have voices. We still have strength.
